    Description

    A fantastic 1901 LD Lothrop Gloucester Massachusetts foghorn with maritime green painted case, leather strap handle, and mahogany crank handle. Measuring 15.5 x 11 x 8“, the box has a red painted name to the side. Captain Joseph York of Cape Elizabeth and later South Portland Maine presided over a number of large sailing vessels in the very late 19th to early 20th century. The case is sealed and I believe the rubber or leather tubes connected to the Bellows have deteriorated such that The horn no longer works. Case could be opened and repairs made. It has a brass plaque affixed to the top with patent date. Overall very good shape with minor paint losses, the case retains at least 95% of its old blue green paint.
